How a French Dream Landed in the heart of Los Angeles

They say every good story begins with a little bit of courage and a whole lot of butter.


For us — Jean-Luc and Véronique — our story started over 25 years ago in the charming markets of France. Back then, our days were simple and sweet: rising early with the bakers, selecting the freshest ingredients, preparing meals from recipes passed down through generations. We weren’t thinking about Los Angeles. We weren’t thinking about building a restaurant. We were simply doing what we loved: feeding people well, the French way.


But like any good story, ours took an unexpected turn.


There was always a small voice inside us, a quiet curiosity: What if we shared this with more people? What if we brought this way of life — this food, this joy, this tradition — somewhere new?


Los Angeles called to us in a way no place else did. A city brimming with energy, creativity, and a hunger for something real, something made with care. We packed up our recipes, our dreams, and a lifetime of culinary experience — and we crossed the ocean.

We didn’t open a restaurant right away. We started humbly, at farmers’ markets all over LA County. A few tables. A basket of croissants. Some savory quiche, a little Boeuf Burginon, and of course… pastries, always pastries.


Little by little, we watched people fall in love — not just with the food, but with the feeling. The feeling of slowing down for a moment, of tasting something deeply comforting, something made by hand and from the heart. That’s when we knew: we were home.


Today, Délices du Chef is more than a market stand. It’s a bistro — a little piece of France tucked into the rhythm of Los Angeles. When you walk through our doors, we want you to feel transported. Not in a grand, dramatic way — but in the quiet, comforting way a perfect pastry or a warm dish can remind you of somewhere you’ve never been, yet somehow missed.
